Narrative Text: Pengertian, Tujuan, Jenis, Generic Structure dan Contoh – Narrative text adalah salah satu English text yang yang termasuk dalam Reading skill. Maka tidak heran jika menjadi salah materi yang sering dibahas di kelas bahasa inggris. Materi narrative text juga selalu ada dalam ujian baik itu ujian nasional, ujian masuk perguruan tinggi, maupun TOEFL. Untuk itu pada kesempatan ini KBI akan memberikan materi tentang narrative text. Yak, berikut ini simaklah penjelasannya.

Definisi

Narrative text adalah salah satu jenis teks bahasa inggris yang bertujuan untuk menceritakan suatu cerita yang memiliki rangkaian peristiwa kronologis yang saling terhubung.

Tujuan

The Purpose of Narrative Text is to amuse or to entertain the reader with a story. Narrative text bertujuan untuk menghibur pembaca tentang suatu kisah atau cerita.

Jenis

Ada banyak jenis narrative text. Narrative text bisa berupa teks imajiner, faktual, atau kombinasi keduanya. Berikut ini jenis-jenis narrative text: fairy stories, mysteries, science fiction, romances, horror stories, adventure stories, fables, myths and legends, historical narratives, ballads, slice of life, personal experience.

Generic Structure

Struktur generik narrative text berfokus pada serangkaian tahapan yang diusulkan untuk membangun sebuah cerita. Dalam narrative text tahap itu meliput:

1. Orientation
( Pendahuluan ) di mana karakter , setting , dan waktu cerita ditetapkan . Biasanya menjawab pertanyaan siapa? kapan? dimana ? Misalnya: Once upon a time, there was a wolf lived in the forest.

2. Complication or problem
Menceritakan awal masalah yang menyebabkan krisis ( klimaks ). Complication biasanya melibatkan karakter utama.

3. Resolution

Akhir dari cerita yang berupa solusi dari masalah. Perlu adanya resolusi dari masalah. Masalah dapat diselesaikan dapat menjadi lebih baik atau malah lebih buruk, bahagia atau sedih . Kadang-kadang ada beberapa komplikasi yang harus dipecahkan. Hal ini menambah dan mempertahankan minat dan ketegangan bagi pembaca nya.

4. Reorientation/Coda

merupakan pernyataan penutup cerita dan bersifat opsional . Bisa berisi tentang pelajaran moral, saran atau pengajaran dari penulis.

Berikut ini contoh Narrative text:

Timun Emas

Long time ago in the island of Java, Indonesia, lived a couple of farmer. They had married for some years but they had no children. So they prayed to a monster called Buta Ijo to give them children. Buta Ijo was a ferocious and powerful monster. He granted their wish on one condition. When their children had grown up, they had to sacrifice them to Buta Ijo. He liked eating fresh meat of human being. The farmers agreed to his condition. Several months later the wife was pregnant.

She gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. They named her Timun Emas. The farmers were happy. Timun Emas was very healthy and a very smart girl. She was also very diligent. When she was a teenager Buta Ijo came to their house. Timun Emas was frightened so she ran away to hide. The farmers then told Buta Ijo that Timun Emas was still a child. They asked him to postpone. Buta Ijo agreed. He promised to come again. The following year Buta Ijo came again. But again and again their parents said that Timun Emas was still a child.

 When the third time Buta Ijo came their parents had prepared something for him. They gave Timun Emas several bamboo needles, seeds of cucumber, dressing and salt.

‘Timun, take these things’

‘What are these things?’

‘These are your weapons. Buta Ijo will chase you. He will eat you alive. So run as fast as you can. And if he will catch you spread this to the ground. Now go!’

Timun Emas was scared so she ran as quickly as she could. When Buta Ijo arrived she was far from home. He was very angry when he realized that his prey had left. So he ran to chase her. He had a sharp nose so he knew what direction his prey ran.

Timun Emas was just a girl while Buta Ijo was a monster so he could easily catch her up. When he was just several steps behind Timun Emas quickly spread the seeds of cucumber. In seconds they turned into many vines of cucumber. The exhausted Buta Ijo was very thirsty so he grabbed and ate them. When Buta Ijo was busy eating cucumber Timun Emas could run away.

But soon Buta Ijo realized and started running again. When he was just several steps behind Timun Emas threw her bamboo needles. Soon they turned into dense bamboo trees. Buta Ijo found it hard to pass. It took him some time to break the dense bamboo forest. Meanwhile Timun Emas could run farther.

Buta Ijo chased her again. When he almost catch her again and again Timun Emas threw her dressing. This time it turned into a lake. Buta Ijo was busy to save himself so Timun Emas ran way. But Buta Ijo could overcome it and continued chasing her.

Finally when Timun Emas was almost caught she threw her salt. Soon the land where Buta Ijo stood turned into ocean. Buta Ijo was drowned and died instantly. Timun Emas was thankful to god and came back to her home.

Beberapa waktu lalu, KBI telah memberikan artikel mengenai contoh report text tentang kangguru. Apakah Anda tahu apa itu report text? Report text merupakan salah satu jenis teks dalam bahasa inggris. Report text sering kali disamakan dengan descriptive text, tetapi sebenarnya report text berbeda dengan descriptive text hanya saja memiliki beberapa kesamaan saja. Pada kesempatan ini KBI akan membahas tentang report text. Berikut ini penjelasannya.

Pengertian

“A report text is a type of text that announce the result of an investigation or announce something. The information given in a report text is very general information.”

Report text adalah jenis teks yang mengumumkan hasil penyelidikan atau mengumumkan sesuatu . Informasi yang diberikan dalam teks laporan adalah informasi yang sangat umum.

Apasih yang membedakan report text dan descriptive text? Jika Anda membandingkannya dengan seksama, bedanya adalah recont text menjelaskan sesuatu secara general atau umum sedangkan descriptive text menjelaskan sesuatu yang spesifik atau khusus. Report text juga biasanya bersifat ilmiah.

Tujuan

“Social function of report text is to present information about something generally to the reader.”

Social function dari report text adalah untuk menyajikan informasi tentang sesuatu secara umum kepada pembaca.

Secara umum, report text menggambarkan hal-hal yang berkenaan dengan fenomena alam , buatan manusia dan sosial di lingkungan kita , seperti : mamalia , planet-planet , batu , tanaman , negara-negara dan kota, budaya , transportasi , dan sebagainya. Dan report text bersifat ilmiah karena menyajikan fakta-fakta sebagai hasil penelitian atau observasi.

Generic Structure

General Classification
berisi pernyataan umum tentang subject yang dibicarakan atau dibahas.

Description
merupakan bagian yang memberikan gambaran secara detail mengenai subject yang dibahas pada bagian general classification.

Venice

General Classification :
Venice is a city in northern Italy. It is the capital of region Veneto. Together with Padua, the city is included in the Padua-Venice Metropolitan Area. Venice has been known as the “Queen of the Adriatic”, “City of Water”, “City of Bridges”, and “The City of Light”. The city stretches across 117 small islands in the marshy Venetian Lagoon along the Adriatic Sea in northeast Italy.

Description:
Venice is world-famous for its canals. It is built on an archipelago of 117 islands formed by about 150 canals in a shallow lagoon. The islands on which the city is built are connected by about 400 bridges. In the old center, the canals serve the function of roads, and every form of transport is on water or on foot.

You can ride gondola there. It is the classical Venetian boat which nowadays is mostly used for tourists, or for weddings, funerals, or other ceremonies. Now, most Venetians travel by motorized waterbuses (“vaporetti”) which ply regular routes along the major canals and between the city’s islands. The city also has many private boats. The only gondolas still in common use by Venetians are the traghetti, foot passenger ferries crossing the Grand Canal at certain points without bridges.

You can see the amusing city’s landmarks such as Piazza San Marco, Palazzo Contarini del Bovolo, Saint Mark’s Cathedral or villas of the Veneto. The villas of the Veneto, rural residences for nobles during the Republic, are one of the most interesting aspects of Venetian countryside. They are surrounded by elegant gardens, suitable for fashionable parties of high society. The city is also well known for its beautiful and romantic view, especially at night.

One day, Mouse Deer went down to the river to take a drink. But he knew that the crocodile might be waiting underwater to eat him, so he said out loud. “I wonder if the water’s warm. I’ll put in my leg and find out.” Of course Mouse Deer didn’t put in his leg. He picked up a stick instead and put one end into the water. Chomp…! Crocodile grabbed the stick and pulled it underwater. Mouse Deer laughed. “Ha… ha…ha… Stupid crocodile! Cant you tell the difference between a stick and a leg?” Then Mouse Deer ran off to drink somewhere else.

In the next day, Mouse Deer wanted to cross the river. He wanted to eat the fruits on the other side of the river. He saw a floating log in the river. He knew that Crocodile looked like a log when he floated. Mouse Deer didn’t want to be eaten by Crocodile when he crosses the river. He had an idea. He called out loud, “Crocodile!” Crocodile rose from the water, “Hello, Mouse Deer. Have you come to be my lunch?” Mouse Deer smiled. “Sorry, not today, Crocodile. I have orders from the King. He wants to invite all the crocodiles in this river to a party. He wants me to count all the crocodiles so he could prepare enough meal for you.”

“Really…? Tell us what to do,” said Crocodile. “You must line up from this side of the river to the other side,” said Mouse Deer. Crocodile then got all his friends and family. They lined up across the river. Mouse Deer then jumped onto Crocodile’s back. “One,” he counted. He jumped onto the next crocodile, “Two.” And the next crocodile, “Three.” Mouse Deer kept jumping until he arrived on the other side of the river. “How many are there?” asked Crocodile. “Just enough,” said Mouse Deer. He laughed as he ran to the forest.***

Lion and Rabbit

    In ancient times , there lived a very ferocious lion in the forest . He always went hunting and killed other animals every day . Animals that lived in the forest were worried about it . Finally they came together to see the lion .

   ‘’ O great lion ! You are very strong and brave . Starting for today , you are the king in the forest ! ‘’ One of them said

  ‘’Groahh! I am the one who supposed to be the  king ! ‘’The lion said ‘’But if you kill so many animals every day , we will all be gone . Then how can you be king if you don’t have people ! ‘’ One of them said

‘’ From today you don’t need to hunt anymore because one of us would go yo see you as your food every day ‘’ said another animal

The lion finally agreed . He no longer hunted in the woods , He’s just waiting for the other animals came to as his food every day . Until one day , it  was rabbit’s turn to meet him . He figured out how to escape from the lion . Then he came too late on purpose so that the lion was really hungry .

‘’Groahh! Why are you so long and why only a rabbit! You’re not going to make me satisfied ! ‘’ The lion yalled ‘’ Calm down sir , I was here with 12 families . But on our  way they were captured by lion stronger than you ! ‘’ The rabbit said “ He even sent me here to challenge you ! ‘’ He added

‘’Show me where he is . I’II fight him ! ‘’ He said . Finally the rabbit drove him into a well . My king , it was my sister , while others are still inside with the lion ! ‘’ The rabbit said while he was pointing his own shadow out in the water . The lion then looked into the well and saw his shadow too. He growled thought it was his enemy . The lion  jumped into the well to attack him . However dwellers become free because of the rabbit .

Singa dan Kelinci

Pada zaman dahulu hiduplah seekor singa yang sangat ganas di dalam hutan . Dia selalu pergi berburu dan membunuh  hewan lain setiap hari . Hewan – hewan yang tinggal di hutan itu menjadi khawatir . Akhirnya mereka beramai – ramai pergi menghadapnya .

‘’Wahai singa yang gagah ! kau sangat kuat dan berani . Mulai hari ini kau adalah raja di hutan ini . ‘’ kata salah satu dari mereka

‘’Groahh ! memang seharusnya akulah menjadi raja ! ‘’kata singa itu .’’Tetapi jika kau membunuh banyak hewan setiap hari , kami semua akan habis . Lalu bagaimana bisa kau menjadi raja jika kau tidak memiliki rakyat ! ‘’ jawab salah satu dari mereka

‘’Mulai hari ini kau tidak perlu berburu lagi karena salah satu dari kami akan pergi menemui sebagai makananmu setiap hari .’’kata binatang yang lain

Akhirnya sang singa menyetujinya . Dia tidak lagi berburu di dalam hutan . Dia hanya menunggu hewan lain datang kepadanya sebagai makanannya setiap hari .Hingga pada suatu hari , tibalah giliran kelinci yang harus menemuinya . Dia mencari cara bagaimana bisa meloloskan diri dari sang singa . Kemudian dia sengaja datang terlambat agar sang singa benar – benar lapar

‘’Groahh! Kenapa kau lama sekali dan kenapa hanya kelinci ? kau tak akan membuatku kenyang ! ‘’ teriak singa .

‘’Tenang tuan , aku kemari bersama 12 keluargaku . Namun di perjalanan mereka di tangkap oleh singa yang lebih kuat darimu ! ‘’ kata kelinci itu ‘’Dia bahkan mengirimku kesini untuk menantangmu ! tambahnya

‘’ Tunjukan dimana singa itu , aku akan melawn dia !’katanya . Akhirnya kelinci mantarkan dia ke sebuah sumur . ‘’Lihatlah itu tuan , itu adalah adikku , sedangkan yang lain masih berada di dalam singa itu ! ‘’ kata kelinci menunjuk bayangannya sendiri di dalam air . Kemudian singa itu melihat ke dalam sumur itu dan melihat bayangannya . Ia menggeram mengira bayangan itu adalah musuhnya . Lalu singa itu melompat ke dalam sumur untuk menyerangnya . Namun kepalannya terbentur dengan batu dan ia mati tenggelam di dalam sumur . Akhirnya semua penghuni hutan itu menjadi bebas karena  kepintaran kelinci
